Do you like carne asada? I love it! Today, I am excited to share a recipe on how to marinate carne asada.

Growing up in South East Los Angeles, it felt like it was always summer. For example, every weekend, the weather was warm enough where I would find myself at a carne asada or BBQ. Sometimes, it would be in my parent’s backyard. Other times, my aunts would host the cookout. The best cookouts were at my grandma’s house, hands down. Wherever we were, one thing was constant: good food and good company.

Then, as I became an adult, I found myself taking turns with friends hosting carne asadas in our own backyards. What I love most about carne asada is its flavor. For instance, I just told you I ate this meal basically every weekend. It is so delicious that I never grew tired of it! Additionally, this cut of meat is relatively lean. Paired with rice, salsa, and grilled vegetables, you can enjoy a rather nutritious meal without compromising flavor. I like that I can enjoy the flavors of my culture and know that I am nourishing my body as well. Finally, this meal can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. For example, you can enjoy it with rice or tortillas. Enjoy it with cooked salsa or fresh pico de gallo. Or, enjoy it with different types of veggies like bell peppers, onions, or cactus.

How to Marinate Carne Asada Recipe

To make this recipe, you will need the following ingredients.

  • Skirt steak (carne asada), 1 lb
  • One onion
  • Cilantro, one bunch
  • Lawry’s seasoning salt, 1 tablespoon
  • Garlic powder, 1 tablespoon
  • Mrs. Dash original blend salt-free seasoning, 1 tablespoon
  • 1 can or bottle of your favorite Mexican beer

Once you have your ingredients ready, this is how you prepare everything: Firstly, rinse the meat in cool water under running water. Rinse each piece. Secondly, after rinsing, place it into a clean bowl. Once all the meat is in the bowl, pour beer into the bowl. It’s ok if you sneak in a sip or two of the beer! Allow the meat to sit in the beer for at least half an hour. The acidity from the beer will tenderize the meat. Once we have let the meat sit in the bowl of beer, we will dispose of the beer.

As you wait for the meat to tenderize, you can prepare the other ingredients. Rinse the cilantro, cut the onion into slices, and mix the three seasonings together in a small dish.

Once the meat is soaked, transfer one piece of meat at a time out of the bowl, into a clean bowl. As you transfer the meat, season each side. In between layers of meat, add sliced onion and cilantro. Continue until all the meat is seasoned.

Now, mix everything together with your hands. Really rub the seasonings into the meat. Cover the bowl of seasoned meat with plastic wrap. Allow it to absorb the flavors while you make your side dishes. Grill the meat to your desired doneness and enjoy!
