How to use a Rice Cooker
Hola homies! It’s your girl, Bernadette, author of HerenciaCookbook, full of authentic SalviMex recipes with a modern twist. In today’s post, I will be sharing how I make rice in a rice cooker. Herencia Cookbook is all about honoring the matriarchs of our cultura. It looks to the past to honor our ancestors. But, it is also a modern book, complete with modern hacks and tips. My tip for today is to use a rice cooker to make rice quickly and easily! Read on for my tips on how to cook rice in a rice cooker.
What I love about cooking rice in a rice cooker is that I can set it and forget it! I am a Los Angeles Latina who lived an on-the-go lifestyle pre-pandemic. Before COVID, I was commuting to work, working over 40 hours a week, working on Herencia Cookbook in any free time that I could find, going to the gym, and maintaining a social life with my spouse and our couple friends. Now, even though life has slowed down during the pandemic and quarantine, I have a newborn! So, kitchen hacks that save me time and effort are more important than ever these days. This is why I love to use my rice cooker! Read on for my take on how to make rice in a rice cooker.
To make rice in a rice cooker, you will need the following ingredients:
- Rice, 2 cups
- Water, 2 cups
- Grapeseed oil, 1 tablespoon
- Knorr chicken seasoning, 1 tablespoon
- Onion, 1/4th
Now that you have the ingredients, this is how you put them together! Firstly, rinse your rice well. Secondly, add oil into the rice cooker, to evenly coat the bottom. Next, pour in the rice. Then, add water. Now, stir in the seasoning. Set the rice cooker to cook, according to the manufacture’s instructions. When the water evaporates, in about 20 or so minutes, the rice will be all done! Finally, you are ready to enjoy.
Senora Advice: Once the rice is done cooking, turn it off. Leaving the warmer on too long can sometimes burn the rice, depending on which type of rice cooker you have.
It is so quick to put everything all up in the rice cooker. You can cook the rest of your meal while the rice cooks itself. Or, you can indulge in a sheet mask. You can check out the rice cooker that I personally use here.

Rice Cooker White Rice Recipe
Equipment
- rice cooker
Ingredients
- Rice 2 cups
- Water 2 cups
- Grapeseed oil 1 tablespoon
- Knorr chicken seasoning 1 tablespoon
- Onion 1/4th
Instructions
- Rinse rice well.
- Add oil to coat the rice cooker pan.
- Next, pour in rice.
- Dissolve the Knorr chicken seasoning in the water.
- Add seasoned water to the rice cooker and stir.
- Set the rice cooker to the cook setting.
- When the water evaporates, in about 20 or so minutes, the rice will be all done!
