Do you like tortillas? I do. I love tortillas so much that I actually like to get creative with them. For instance, I sometimes make chia seed tortillas. Other times, I add ground flaxseed to my tortillas. Today, though, I will share a homemade spinach tortillas recipe with you.
I recently shared a video of these tortillas on Tik Tok and it blew up! Consequently, a lot of people requested the recipe. However, I usually eyeball my tortillas and go my intuition. I allow my hands to feel the texture. Certainly, with tortillas, practice makes perfect. However, a lot of folks requested a recipe with exact measurements. Therefore, I tested the recipe today to get the most precise measurements possible. Without further ado, here is the recipe!
Homemade Spinach Tortillas Recipe
To make these tortillas, you will need spinach, hot water, and cornflour (also know as masa harina).
To make them, you will start like this: Firstly, in a heat-safe blender, add spinach and hot water. Secondly, blend until smooth. Once the spinach mixture cools down until you can work with it, but it is still warm, you are ready to ready to make masa. In a bowl, add two cups of cornflour. Slowly add spinach infused water. You should only need about 1 1/2 cups of warm water. If the masa is too sticky, add more cornflour. If it is too dry, add a bit more warm water. Massage the masa until it no longer sticks to your hands. This can take about 5 to 10 minutes. Let the masa rest for about 10 minutes, as you prepare to start cooking the tortillas.
To cook the tortillas, warm a comal on medium heat. As the comal warms, you can roll your masa into 12 one-inch spheres. After that, add a sphere to your tortilla press. Slowly and gently add pressure to flatten into your desired tortilla shape. Place the raw tortilla onto the comal to cook. Place it down. Once it starts steaming, turn. Wait about one minute and flip again. It should start to puff up. This is a good thing! Flip it over one more time. Once golden, it is ready. Finally, enjoy!
