It is the most wonderful time of year! It’s Christmas! A time to spend time with loved ones and eat amazing food. This time of year, I love to enjoy tamales, pozole, menudo, and these Christmas Empanadas, of course. The seasonal foods certainly make the special holiday season all the more enjoyable. Yum.

Indeed, it is a special time of year. Full of ugly sweater parties, potlucks, and similar gatherings. And don;t forget posadas! These Christmas empanadas are a great treat to bring to any sort of holiday party. For instance, each individual empanada is a single serving. No need to cut or slice. They are ready to eat. Delicious. And sweet! It couldn’t be simpler!

You can enjoy these Christmas empanadas with champurrado. Yum! Similarly, you can enjoy them with hot chocolate. Finally, they also go great with cafe de Olla. That’s my personal favorite. Is there anything more delicious than sweet bread and coffee?

To make these Christmas empanadas extra festive, top them with red and green sugar! Have fun with it and get creative.

These empanadas are filled with Leche poleada. That is a type of milk custard. The custard recipe originates from El Salvador. Yet, the empanada dough itself is Mexican style. The dough is made of flour.

The difference is that for Salvadoran empanadas, the dough is made of plantains! Therefore, you can say this recipe truly is a fusion of my Mexican and Salvadoran upbringing. Salvadoran filling in a Mexican dough.
