Do you like rum? Then this sweet lime cocktail with rum is the perfect summer drink for you! Inspired by the classic Cuban Canchanchara, I made this cocktail with white rum, Jarritos Lime Flavor, and Mineragua seltzer. As a result, this drink is sweet, refreshing, and perfect for summer. So, let’s get to it! If you are not familiar with rum, allow me to tell you more about this spirit. It works fantastically for sweeter cocktails. So if you are into sweet spirits, I encourage you to learn more about it!
Typical canchancharras use honey syrup as a sweetener. For my recipe, I use Jarritos lime flavor instead. It adds just the right amount of sweetness!
What Makes Rum So Sweet?
Rum is made out of molasses or sugar. In other words, rum makers ferment and then distill sugarcane syrup, sugarcane molasses, etc.
Different Types of Rum
Rum falls into two categories- light and dark. White rum is typically aged in a stainless steel barrel for a year or less. You can enjoy white rum in drinks such as the Mojito, Daiquiri, Piña Colada, and the Canchanchara. Dark rum is typically aged in oak barrels, for a longer period of time. Additionally, sometimes, distillers add spices for a more robust flavor. You can enjoy dark rum in drinks like the Macua, El Ritual, or even ponches. I typically like lighter spirits. Today, we will use white rum for this cocktail recipe!
