My great-grandmother, Nana Lupita, was a culinary force to be reckoned with, infusing her dishes with copious amounts of garlic that we jokingly credit for her long, vibrant life. Then there was my beloved Nana Isabel, whose cooking was a manifestation of love itself, filling our home with the comforting aroma of Suavitel fabric softener and fried beans.

It’s a homage to their strength, resilience, and unwavering love, manifested through the dishes they prepared with care and devotion. As I navigate motherhood myself, I find myself reflecting on their legacies, striving to embody their blend of assertiveness and nurturing in my own journey.
